Developing the teaching methods used at Kal*EYE*do*scoptics has been a thirty plus year journey, beginning with the premature birth of her identical twin daughters. Both of the girls had visual processing issues resulting in major struggles with reading. They suffered from ADHD, Dyslexia, double vision, and visual suppression.
As a home school parent, Becky set out to learn as much as she could about learning disabilities and visual processing. She attended many workshops, looking for techniques and information that might help her children improve academically.
Becky spent seven years apprenticing with Carol Bailey, a retired 2nd Grade Teacher and Visual Therapist from New Orleans. Ms. Bailey had developed physical/visual training techniques as a Visual Therapist and worked under the supervision and guidance of Dr. Oliver Whitney, an optometrist, who taught her many visual exercises.
While homeschooling, Becky attended educational workshops and seminars for teachers. This additional training allowed her to refine the specialized teaching skills she developed. After 15 years of working with her own children, extended families’, and friends’ children, she opened her tutoring service, “Whole Brain Reading Programs” in 2002.
The name was changed in 2012 to Kal*EYE*do*scoptics: A Visual Approach to Learning to begin the trademarking process.
Becky’s teaching methods have had a dramatic effect on many children with learning difficulties, where other therapies and methods have failed. If you would like to know more about some of these students, please visit our testimonial page.
