Kaleyedoscoptics' Workshop Schedule

Each Workshop is 6 hours per week for four-weeks of fun, concentrated, productive instruction. All skills are reinforced through games to expand every child’s retention and understanding of their newly acquired knowledge. Learning is fun and easy in our classes.

Summer Workshops

LEARNING HOW TO LEARN!

Kaleyedoscoptics' Workshops are full of fun, productive, concentrated instruction. Each Workshop is designed to accelerate learning for ALL students (ages 5 and up). Our Workshops are great for children with Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, ADD or ADHD and many other learning challenges. Only 4 to 6 students are accepted per Workshop so every child receives plenty of personal attention. All skills taught are reinforced by playing games which require the use of skills learned during instruction time. Having fun with new knowledge reinforces and deepens retention. Check out our Workshop options below:

Spelling/Reading Workshop:

  • • Manuscript handwriting and posture.
  • • Exposure to the 71 most commonly used phonetic spellings.
  • • Spelling instruction with rules and usage.
  • • Reading fluency practice.

The goal for this workshop is for students to gain an understanding of spelling, increase spontaneous word recognition, and improve reading fluency and comprehension. For practice outside of the Workshop and beyond, each student receives a personalized Spelling/Reading Notebook and each family receives one Parent Manual. The Workbook and Parent Manual provide support and guidance during and beyond our classes.

Expected Results:
Improvement in basic spelling and reading skills and confidence.

Basic English Workshop:

(Must have finished 3rd grade or above. Prerequisite Spelling / Reading Workshop or tested out of it.)

  • • Cursive Handwriting: lower case focus.
  • • Basic sentence structure.
  • • Brain storming.
  • • Organizing thoughts.
  • • Writing two 3 paragraph essays the second will be in cursive.

The goal for this fun workshop is for the students to learn how to write creatively getting their thoughts out of their heads onto the paper, while expanding their vocabulary. On the last day of the workshop the children will have an opportunity to read their essays aloud to their families at the end of class.

Expected Results:
After the Workshop children will be able to take a topic or idea through the process of connecting, organizing and summarizing supporting information into essay format. This skill is essential for students to be able to respond to questions which require written responses and writing reports.

Advanced English Workshop:

(Must have completed Basic English or tested out of it)

  • • Cursive Handwriting review of all lower case lettering.
  • • Handwriting skill focus will be on learning upper case lettering and mastery of writing using cursive.
  • • Streamlining of Brain storming (reducing the number of steps from idea to finished product).
  • • Writing two 5 paragraph essays, both in cursive.

The goal of this fun workshop is for the students to master the skill of expressing their thoughts in an organized, logical format while expanding their vocabulary to increase their ability to express themselves in all forms of communication. On the last day of the workshop the children will have an opportunity to read their essays aloud to their families at the end of class.

Expected Results:
Students will have expanded their vocabulary, improved their ability to organize their thoughts in essay format and increased their ability for self-expression.

Basic Math Workshop:

(Testing to determine inital placement)

  • • Writing of the digits and correct posture.
  • • Basic number usage and logic.
  • • Single digit addition / subtraction drill.
  • • Skills to eliminate the need for counting with fingers, tallies or dots.
  • • Place value, reading numbers in the trillions, carrying over, and borrowing.

The goal of this fun, fast workshop is for the students to gain the skills and tools needed to achieve mastery of single digit addition and subtraction facts, while also learning to understand the process of carrying over and borrowing for multi-digit addition and subtraction.

Expected Results:Increased understanding of numbers and improved ability to perform single digit addition/subtraction problems without the use of fingers, tallies or dots. Each child will have the understanding and tools needed to continue to the practice of single digit math facts beyond the Workshop.

Intermediate Math Workshop:

(Must have completed Basic Math or tested out)

  • • Writing of the digits and correct posture.
  • • Basic number usage and logic will be reviewed.
  • • Single digit multiplication / division drill.
  • • Skills to eliminate the need to count forward, look at a multiplication chart or use a calculator will be taught.
  • • Long multiplication / division will be introduced.

The goal of this exciting workshop is for each student to gain the skills and tools needed to achieve mastery of single digit multiplication and division while also learning to understand the process of multi-digit multiplication and division.

Expected Results:
Improved ability to perform single digit multiplication/division problems without the use of counting forward, a multiplication chart or a calculator. Each child will have the understanding and tools needed to continue to the practice of single digit multiplication/division facts beyond the Workshop.

Advanced Math Workshop:

(Must have completed Intermediate Math or tested out)

  • • Review of all basic skills.
  • • Defining fractions.
  • • Use and purpose of Fractions.
  • • Defining decimals.
  • • Use and purpose of decimals.

The goal of this advanced workshop is to give the students confidence in math with hands on experiences playing with and learning about fractions and decimals. This Workshop completes our series of Math Workshops giving each student a solid foundation in Math knowledge so he or she can be confident in all levels of Mathematics.

Private Instruction

Private Instruction is primarily offered during the school year with limited hours during the summer break. Private instruction is one on one. A student may register for as little as one hour per week. However, to maximize improvement it is recommended to schedule at least two hours or more per week on different days. Classes are reserved by the hour. Each hour is designed around the need of the student; however, all private instruction classes focus on one academic area and include physical and visual coordination activities.

  • • Sessions are $60.00 per hour
  • • Minimum 12 week commitment
